On the 31st October, the clocks will go back by one hour. This is the end of British Summer Time and time reverts back to Greenwich Mean Time. British summer time was first introduced in 1916 to make the most of daylight. Today it increases the amount of time for leisure, exercise, reduce road accidents and reduce energy consumption.
It means that we will get earlier sunrises and earlier sunsets. It also means a change in routine and change to bedtimes. Most children will adapt, some will enjoy an extra hour in bed and some maybe be sensitive to moving body clock.
So what can you do to get ready for the changes?
There a few adaptions you can make to help support the change.
As it is lighter in the morning, make sure that the room is dark, blackout blinds can help. This can help with early waking's. Once awake open the curtains and let in the sunshine. This helps set the body clock.
Keep a good routine and move it back by 10 mins over the next few days before the clocks change. Keep wake up times the same.
Having warm milk or a sleepy food snack can help children feel sleepy.
Keep a good bedtime routine and ensure a good bedtime environment.
On Sunday get out in the fresh air and get active, just beware of become overtired. Moving body clock even by 60 mins can have an impact. But there are somethings that can be adapted.
