Why is sleep important?

This blog is focused on why sleep is important, not only for the body but also the mind. Turning away from the negative sleep issues to looking at a more positive facts of why is sleep important. Anyone with a sleep issue can give you a lists of issues that sleep deprivation can give you from low mood to lack of memory. Here's a bit of science behind why sleep is important.


Why is sleep important


1) As humans we have evolved a natural sleep cycle. Each cycle lasting around 90 - 120 mins. We follow the cycle thought-out for four to five times a night. There are different types of sleep.

2) There are two types of sleep Rapid Eye Movement REM and non REM sleep

3) Sleep rather than passive is an active time when our bodies repair, grow, manage hormones and sort memories. In the non REM sleep the body temperature drops, muscles relax, the body repairs tissue and cells. As well an increasing in immune system and memory.

4) For children growth hormones are released in their sleep

5) REM sleep eye movement become rapid, brain is learning and consolidating the day. Primary 'dream' stage of sleep. Babies and toddlers spent a lot of time in REM sleep.
